Out with The Sonics and in with The Sounders. My pal Kristin WISELY invested in season tickets for Seattle's newest sports team, The Sounders FC. Yes, Major League Soccer has come to Seattle's Qwest field and on opening day, a sell-out event, she invited me to be her guest.
The Sounders played the New York Red Bulls and won, 3-0 on the new XBox 360 Pitch. Because Seattle has a propensity for flair, every time the Sounders did ANYTHING worth cheering about, up went the green scarves from 30,000 fans and down poured the beer-clogging glitter. That is why it looks like fairy snow all over the pitch. I know my cell phone pictures are 100% awful, but it's all I had on hand.
The fans were zealous without being knuckleheads, the chants were fun and simple, and I really enjoyed being sat near the full band. A guy about 5 rows in front of us even brought his own cow bell to play along with the songs.
My tips would be to dress in layers as you can go from hot to cold quickly, be patient in seeking out a good beer (there's more than just Bud and Bud Lite), and BUY THE SCARF. You will feel left out without one.
